From Oklahoma roots to Tennessee stages, Fred Winston is a torchbearer for traditional country music — reviving the sound and spirit many fans feel has been missing.
Fred's journey didn't begin on stage, but on two wheels. At just 13, his uncle introduced him to the guitar — though his early passion leaned toward motocross. He spent years competing on the circuit, earning multiple trophies and qualifying for prestigious events including the AMA Amateur National Motocross Championship at the Loretta Lynn Ranch, the GNC Nationals in Texas, and the NMA Nationals in Ponca City, Oklahoma. After enduring injuries and weighing the realities of maintaining his welding career, Fred made the pivotal decision to step away from racing and fully pursue music.
Music had always been woven into his upbringing, shaped by legends like Merle Haggard, George Jones, and George Strait. Immersing himself in the local scene, Fred performed with various bands in the college town of Tahlequah, Oklahoma, during the early rise of Red Dirt music. After refining his craft, he joined The Messenger Dogs, which led to connections with the Red Dirt Rangers. These experiences helped shape his sound and stage presence, eventually bringing him to perform at country clubs throughout the Tulsa area.
A new chapter began when Fred met his wife and relocated to Tennessee. There, he continued honing his artistry, performing at songwriter nights around Nashville. His determination led him to audition for the first season of Nashville Star, where he advanced through the first two rounds. Following his appearance, he was interviewed and featured in Country Weekly magazine — a moment that further fueled his drive.
Fred Winston isn't just playing country music — he's preserving its legacy.
Unwavering in his pursuit, Fred went on to front multiple bands and build a loyal fanbase that continues to follow his performances across state lines. He has expanded his reach with shows in Branson, Missouri, and Oklahoma casinos — and now 2026 is shaping up to be a defining year. Fred is currently in the studio recording his debut album, set for release this June. With a sound grounded in authenticity and a story built on grit, he's carrying traditional country forward, one honest song at a time.
